Triathlon is a kind of sport that combines such activities as swimming, running, and cycling. The first triathlon competition was organized in 1974 and about 46 sportsmen took part in it. It is possible to say that triathlon is a multi-stage competition. It consists of summer kinds of sports, so it is a part of Summer Olympic Games and it was introduced for the first time to Olympics in 2000. The sportsmen had to swim for 1,500 m, to run for 10 km, and to ride a bike for 40 km. Biathlon Biathlon is a winter kind of sport and it combines such activities as cross-country skiing and target shooting. Sportsmen have to show their skills in the cross-country skiing and to shoot a target. Biathlon is a part of Winter Olympic Games. There are also other competitions for biathlonists, such as Biathlon World Championships and Biathlon World Cup. So, summing up, we see that triathlon is a summer kind of sport and biathlon is a winter kind of sport. They consist of different components and both are a part of the Olympic Games.
